About

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to have an historical impact on students’ lives, we believe that filmmaking is the best way for students to authentically document their experiences and share their voices.

Babel Film Workshop is now looking for student leaders to help facilitate a free filmmaking initiative (Film Stylo) that empowers younger students in their school community to express themselves through film, engaging in a unique creative process that also addresses students’ emotional wellbeing.

Film Stylo was developed by Babel Film Workshop founder Jeremy Hung as a fellowship project at Yale University, with consultation from child psychiatrist Dr. Eunice Yuen. It has been featured by K11, SCMP, The Standard, and China Daily.

Who we’re looking for

This opportunity is most suitable for film students (or students with experience in filmmaking) who are currently in their final two years of high school, and who are:

  • passionate about the film medium;

  • driven to enact positive change in their school community through creative arts; and

  • would like to gain experience in organizing film-related events

Get involved

Students in their final 2 years at any high school in Hong Kong are welcome to apply. A maximum of 2 students per school will be selected and appointed as Film Stylo Ambassadors based on a written application.

Film Stylo Ambassadors will meet with the Babel Film Workshop team periodically throughout the Spring term (approx. once every 2 weeks), and be trained to facilitate the Film Stylo program for middle-school students at their school. Participating students will be guided by the Ambassadors to complete short films to be submitted for a screening event in May 2022.

This experience will be adapted according to the public health situation in Hong Kong.

Application Deadline: January 31st, 2021 (11:59pm)

This is a non-paid student leadership position. No fee is required of any participants of this initiative.
