Hong Kong Students Visit Set of Award-Winning Filmmaker Audrey Diwan's Upcoming Film, "Emmanuelle"

Last week, four Babel Film Workshop students got the incredible opportunity to visit the set of award-winning French filmmaker, Audrey Diwan.

Ms. Diwan’s previous film Happening won the Golden Lion in Venice, one of the most prestigious prizes in film, and her new film Emmanuelle starring Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Tár) is shot partially in Hong Kong.

Ms. Diwan’s previous film Happening won the prestigious Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival.

This was the first time each of the four students in our Short Film Incubation program visited a professional film set, and they each gained valuable insights from watching an international big-budget film production first hand. One of the students, Ema Poposka, reflected, “I learned so much about the different types of roles and how a director works with her team.”

Another student, Maya Barreto, is currently in the process of applying to film schools, and said that watching a female filmmaker on set was “a really solidifying experience for [her], and made [her] realize that film is definitely what [she] wants to do.”

All four students who visited Ms. Diwan’s set are currently in the process of writing a short film to be produced this school year through our Short Film Incubation program. They all found this rare opportunity incredibly meaningful, and we are grateful to Ms. Diwan and her production team for welcoming us on their set!
