Over the past few months, high school students in Hong Kong and New Haven have been simultaneously participating in our global stay-at-home filmmaking initiative, Film Stylo. The free initiative guides students remotely to create short films about their experiences during the pandemic.

As part of our founder Jeremy Hung’s arts fellow ship at Yale University, where he launched Film Stylo, we will be screening six selected student films from the initiative at an online event on Thursday 11 June at 8:30PM HKT.

Jeremy will be joined by Dr. Eunice Yuen, who serves as the mental wellness consultant for the project. Dr. Yuen will moderate a discussion that addresses how Film Stylo aims to promote intercultural empathy and emotional wellness through filmmaking.

The event is co-hosted by the Yale-China Association and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, which is an annual festival based in New Haven that features performing arts, lectures, and conversations that celebrate the greatest artists and thinkers from around the world.

Student films by Chloe Wan, Donovan Wong, and Harini Thiyagarajan from King George V School will represent Hong Kong, while Aime Mulungula, Kaatje Welsh, and Sylvia Jessen-Cohn from the International Festival of Arts and Ideas’s High School Fellowship Program will represent New Haven.

The films will be presented in pairs to show how students from the two cities interpreted their respective prompts.

RSVP or tune in at the time of the free online event here.

Update: Thanks to everyone who tuned in! The live recording of the event can now be viewed below.
