Today, Babel Film Workshop founder, Jeremy Hung, and mentor, Matthew Leung, have been announced as shortlisted candidates for the 15th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival’s local competition.

Fresh Wave is led by veteran Hong Kong film director Johnnie To (杜琪峯), and aims to assist emerging filmmakers in local short film productions to strive towards a more dynamic film industry.

Outside of their work at Babel Film Workshop, Jeremy and Matthew have been workshopping their respective short screenplays with each other over the last year for entry into the competition.

Jeremy’s project is a psychological thriller that addresses class divide in Hong Kong, while Matthew’s is a children’s drama about a student’s entrance exam process into a top local school.

Each of these projects will receive a subsidy of up to $100,000 HKD for their production later this year.

If you are a film student in Hong Kong, or a high school student who would like to gain experience crewing on a film set, please fill out this form.

Students interested in further filmmaking opportunities can also join our new Facebook group which connects Hong Kong film students to each other for collaboration on film projects.
