When was the last time you visited a cinema?

With local cinemas closed for most of last year, we’re all looking forward to the day we can watch a movie at a real cinema once the pandemic situation improves.

And when that time comes, there will be a brand new cinema in Kennedy Town where you can watch the latest films, from blockbusters to indie titles.

Opening on February 11 on Catchick Street in Kennedy Town, the cinema will be Hong Kong film distribution company Golden Scene’s first.

Golden Scene founder Winnie Tsang Lai-fun told Asia Tatler that she wants the four houses in the cinema to “show a wide range of films,” giving space to locally produced films as well as international productions from Taiwan, America, Europe, Iran, and more.

Among the first films to screen at the new cinema will be The Way We Keep Dancing, the third installment in The Way We Dance series about Hong Kong street dancers, which Golden Scene distributed.

While the cinema will be the only one in Hong Kong’s Western District when it opens, there actually used to be a cinema on the same street decades ago.

In 1972, Fox Theatre welcomed audiences to its 1,237-seat cinema with a Mandarin kung-fu film, but finally closed in 1994. Since then, a residential building has been built on the site.

Nearly three decades later, we’re glad to see a new cinema open up in Kennedy Town!
